The current NAESB REQ.21 ESPI standard only supports opaque OAuth 2.0 access tokens. With the introduction of statewide Green Button hubs the use of OAuth 2.0 JWT-based access tokens will provide ESPI the ability to combine user Authentication and Authorization enabling Federated access.
