Alpha release

There needs to be an alpha release that has the following base functionality (most of this is already done):

• Downloadable iso from github that:
  • can be installed to usb
  • boots up running webmin (done)
  • prompts user to change root password (done)
  • starts firefox pointing to the local webmin installation (done)
  • allows user to simply configure openvpn (done)
  • allows user to create new usb media with client configuration (complete with bugs)

Once we get an alpha release we can work on other issues. The process of working on this will likely create other issues.

One of the main issues I remember with the client configuration of the automation of persistent storage on USB. Here are some notes I have from the last time I worked on this:

• See if we can get a sollution up and working for the persistent storage
  • The idea is supposed to be that casper when it gets going will start
    looking for a partition with a filesystem on it that has the label
    'casper-rw'. This is done by the casper scripts in the livesystem initrd
    scripts/casper:setup_unionfs in find_cow_device ... maybe because the
    peristent option is not set.
  • How did we set the boot options then: from the customize_iso script via
    the isolinux.cfg
  • What is the order of uck-remaster scripts?

  • How do I test the casper script? How do I get the new initrd.lz in
    there? Mount the iso, unpack it (ie copy its contents to the FS, couldn't
    we do this step inline?), uck-remaster-unpack-initrd, modify the casper file,
    uck-remaster-pack-initrs
  • but still the casper-rw parition is not getting seen or mounted and the
    helper, find_cow_device, is not debugging anything. Even after I moved it
    from casper-helpers to casper.
  • The whole system borfs when I manually set it to /dev/sda1
  • a shell in initramfs showed that sda1 was not even up. Not sure why
  • who are the casper maintainers?
