Issues

• Traces: the trace-id index costs about 24 bytes a span, half of what the spans themselves take after compression

• Metrics: a PromQL __name__ regex costs a walk of the whole catalog, where an exact name costs a lookup

• Metrics and traces: a retention: command, as logs have, so a host can change a window without recreating the store

  enhancement

• PromQL: a bare instant selector is charged every point in its lookback, and is refused at the default lookback where count() of it is not

• Metrics: a series whose samples and rollups have all expired stays in the catalog

• A body that is sent twice is stored twice

• Metrics import answers 204 to lines it could not read, and says how many only in /health

awksedgreep/timeless-libsql#84 · Filter by author awksedgreep opened on Sep 29, 2026

• No way to end a series: a staleness marker over text import, honored by PromQL

• Metrics engine memory: about 1.4 KB per stored series and 225 bytes per chunk, written to or not

• Metrics: series that never reach 16,384 points never merge, and rollup chunks never do; per-chunk overhead sets the cost of a sample

• OTLP/JSON: an intValue sent as a string is stored as a JSON string

• Servers set auto_vacuum after journal_mode=WAL, where SQLite ignores it: every database is created with auto_vacuum=0
