English (eng) and German (deu) language packs — scope TBD #24

Description

@bsesic

Summary

Tracking issue for English (eng) and German (deu) language packs. Scope is not yet decided and must be brainstormed before implementation; this issue will be split into per-pack issues once the use case is confirmed.

Open question (blocks scoping)

These are modern languages, not biblical/classical source languages. Their purpose in a textual-criticism engine is undecided between two uses:

  1. Monolingual collation of modern-language witnesses — align actual English/German text witnesses. Needs: casefolding, punctuation handling, ß/ss, umlaut folding, spelling-variant tier. Same pack structure as hbo/ara, monolingual-modern.
  2. Translation / apparatus language — English/German as the language of translations or the critical apparatus (lemma language), not a collated source. This belongs to the cross-lingual alignment path (Cross-lingual alignment path: anchor-based mode + embedding-fill delegation hook #17) rather than a classical-style pack; possibly no full pack is needed.

Plan

Notes

  • No implementation until scope is decided. Rule-based, dependency-light, English artefacts, per project conventions.
