Period at the end of commit title?

I was wondering if periods are supposed to go at the end of commit message titles. I know there is no period in the example, but it's omitted from the written guidelines, and the was some disagreement during stretch time about this key issue.

Steps to reproduce:

fix: Make the bangs whiz.

I tend to not bother with trailing punctuation... Open to other opinions though!
