Be aware, folks. There is no second best Milwaukee Bitcoin Meetup. There is only one at heart. The Bitcoiners who do not forsake the gathering of Satoshi shall meet at the feet of our lord Satoshi, humble, ready to serve, full of empathy and eager to learn, share, grow and implement the things they learn will inherit the earth. You will be rejected. You will be shunned. You will be cast away. But the word of Satoshi shall prevail. We are all Satoshi!!! @kiwihodl, thank you for participating in this discussion. I'm open to your input. My intentions for creating the "forked" github repo recently was to bring awareness of my existing meetup groups and to also ensure we didn't lose any history, like what happened a couple of years ago in a different "Milwaukee Bitcoin Meetup. My Milwaukee bitcoin meetup groups have existed for many years (I've been nurturing online bitcoin mining communities on Telegram and in-person bitcoin meetups since around 2017). In 2013, two guys started up the official "Bitcoin Milwaukee" meetup group and there have been many of these types of in-person and virtual groups over the years. My goal is to foster a supportive and inclusive Bitcoin community in Milwaukee and I respect the diversity of opinions within the community. Would you be open to a private conversation before or after the next in-person "Milwaukee Bitcoin Meetup"? Or, perhaps you'd be more open to a public, online venue instead. Either way, Id like to try to resolve any misunderstandings and to improve the community experience for all members. It's important to keep the broader goals of the Bitcoin community in Milwaukee at heart... such as learning, sharing knowledge, and supporting each other. I encourage the meetup group members to remain positive and be constructive in their online discussions and not tear each other day. It's important to embrace differing viewpoints, as they are valuable, but should be expressed respectfully. |

Michael Matulef @MatulefM wrote this on Nostr:
The reference to "Scott's Vision" is an attempt at discrediting me and my Milwaukee Bitcoin Meetup group by comparing me to Craig Wright. His reference to "Beware of scammers" is another jab attempting to scare people into thinking the same way he thinks. A member of Michael's Milwaukee Bitcoin Meetup group got scammed for around 0.5 BTC a few weeks ago. By tying in my name with that scam reference, he's attempting to further blur the lines. As of today, Michael still refuses to discuss with me directly about why he banned me from his version of the Milwaukee Bitcoin Meetup. |

That's a good one! Haha. You're a good meme creator. |
I had tried reaching out to Michael (the admin/owner of the other Milwaukee Bitcoin Meetup group) and he refused to talk with me privately.Additionally, I reached out to @kiwihodl, and he refused to talk with me about the possibility of meeting up in person to have a discussion:
...
To me, this is very concerning. |

Anything else? |

It appears as though Michael has nuked his version of the Milwaukee Bitcoin Meetup's Telegram group, in true unilateral, authoritarian, dictatorial, closed-source leadership fashion! |
|
Ok now, go back a few lines and screen shot the part where someone said is privacy greater than safety, since you. Please also note that I never stated that safety > privacy. I simply posed the question in an opposite manner as the other person posed it a few lines earlier. Also, note, I was simply putting together a rubric with check marks in it. In an effort to locate bad actors (members in the group who coordinated a very sophisticated catfish attack and social engineering effort to scam a member out of half a bitcoin) I was comparing telegram handles with other telegram handles to see if people have met people associated with a Telegram handle in real life. Nowhere in process was I ever asking them for their real names or their address or their phone number. And at no time was anyone ever at risk of being doxxed or being kyc'd. |
|
Do all the mental gymnastics you want, anyone reading this will be able to piece together you were creating a list with the accompanying rhetoric. Good luck for the SV fork. |
|
My good sir... the purpose of the rubric was simple. The purpose was to try to determine which user in the Telegram group was the potential scammer. The method was to compare which members actually knew other members. The list I was compiling was a list of the Telegram group members' usernames or display names compared against the Telegram group members' usernames or display names. The project died. You made sure of that. No personally identifiable information was being requested or demanding of anyone. The rubric used only information that was provided by the members themselves in the public group chat. Here's the list:
The scammer's handle was never identified. The scammer was still in the Telegram group. Michael told me that no one had joined or left the group within a 48 hour span (24 hours before and 24 hours after) the scam had occurred. Michael issued a vague warning of "beware of scammers". I, however, felt it a little more prudent to take a more proactive approach by educating the members about PGP technology and how scams work and about Telegram safety best-practices regarding transacting in Bitcoin. And that's when you started spewing your rhetoric about privacy and about me acting like a fed, and being all like... don't tread on me. I deeply care about the bitcoin community and the virtual and in-person meetups related to the Milwaukee area. Do you, @kiwihodl? |
|
So there was a list, you were trying to create a "web of trust" and as per the multiple responses from the community, not just me, that idea is regarded and leaves a trail of whom to ask if any nym were to come under scrutiny for whatever reason. The fact that you can't see the danger of this, or the value of nyms, is on you. Multiple people had the same visceral reaction to that silly idea. There was more than one group they were both in IIRC, but even if there wasn't, creating lists is not the solution and doomed to fail. "For your safety" concern trolling is still ongoing, as exemplified in the last strawman above. Your care is not wanted by many, hence a lot of people's attitude changing toward you as you continually pushed for it when it was evident that it would fracture the group and lead to all nyms leaving. The fact that you can't comprehend this is why, and your continuation of obfuscating between doxing and safety lists, while also persisting with the safety > privacy rhetoric, is astounding. I'm not sure if it's regarded or malice, but the beauty is, it doesn't matter anyway. You have the SV version, and others have the private version. Let's see what people voluntarily value more, karen concern trolling and doxing for a safe space, or self accountability and privacy being valued. |
|
I understand your position on the whole "creating lists" things.
Multiple nyms, you mean. Nyms who have nothing or very little to do with Milwaukee or might never have come to a meetup before nor would ever attend.
I've done my best to proactively avoid logical fallacies in my discussion.
I'm sorry, but I don't see this happening. I saw a few nyms spewing insults and memes, that's about it.
No.
Sure. Let's see what happens. But, this is not a battle, like you are making it out to be. It's not a black and white thing like you're tying to make it out to be. It's not one side versus the other. |
