The problem is not the coding quality — it is the usage limit.
I tested Codex and Claude on the same real software-development workflow. With Claude, I had a conversation roughly 8× larger, including extensive codebase analysis, database migrations, Flutter/Dart files, multiple research tasks, and development planning, and I still used only about 25% of my allowance.
With Codex, one or two interactions can consume a huge part of the available usage.
The most ridiculous example: I simply asked how to uninstall Codex from my computer. No coding, no project scan, no tests, no repository analysis — and I observed around 9% of my usage disappear around that interaction.
Whatever internal calculation OpenAI uses, the customer experience is what matters. And from my experience, Codex gives dramatically less usable work per usage limit than competing tools.
Until OpenAI makes Codex usage limits more reasonable and transparent, I cannot recommend it for serious development work.
