Connection Error During Initial DB Connection in Data Affinity Environment

Description

A connection error occurs only when Data Affinity is applied to a RAC database environment.

The issue appears only during the initial database connection attempt when using Oracle Client 23.26.1 or 23.26.2. After the first failure, subsequent connection attempts complete successfully.

The issue does not occur when using Oracle Client 19c in the same RAC/Data Affinity environment.

Environment

1. Database

   • Oracle Database 26ai RAC, version 23.26.2
   • Data Affinity enabled
   • Data is distributed across RAC nodes using hash partitioning

2. Oracle Client

   • 23.26.1
   • 23.26.2

3. PHP & OCI8

   • 8.3.31 + 3.3.0
   • 8.1.31 + 3.2.1
   • 7.4.33 + 2.2.0

Symptoms

• The error occurs only on the initial DB connection attempt.
• Subsequent DB connection attempts work normally.
• The issue has been observed only in the RAC environment where Data Affinity is enabled.

Error Message

The following error is returned during the initial connection attempt:

Error Verification

We captured trace logs at the time of logon and confirmed that ORA-00904 occurred internally during the initial connection.
