Latent is a computational measurement application designed to complement professional review and linguistic research (e.g. Critical Discourse Analytics (CDA) and Legal Informatics). It contributes to ongoing methods to connect qualitative reading with deterministic, quantitative measures of language use, allowing users to map the structural architecture of formal correspondence - such as email, legal, regulatory or client correspondence in an adversarial context.
By scanning for specific syntactic choices - such as how an author could obscure accountability (Defensive Shielding) or force a premise (Aggressive Assertion) - Latent measures which side is driving the narrative. It can also provide insights into the highly rigid, structural footprints of possible AI-assisted drafting.
