Hi, I'm August Murr
I'm an independent ML researcher and engineer focused on the safety and alignment of increasingly powerful AI systems.
My work is grounded in core ML engineering, compute-scalable methods, post-training, and reinforcement learning. I believe the insights of the bitter lesson don't stop at capabilities:
if intelligence scales with compute, wisdom must too.
We cannot afford for safety and alignment to be an afterthought, they need to be as scalable, as compute-driven, and as relentlessly improved as the systems they are meant to keep in check.
I started out drawn to emergent behavior and self-improving systems. The more I built, the more I understood that unconstrained emergence is not a magic pill — it's a Pandora's box. That realization shifted my focus from building toward powerful systems to understanding how to make them safe as they scale.
My interests now span alignment, interpretability, AI governance, policy, and the economic reforms that advanced AI will demand. But I approach all of it from an engineering foundation first.
I want to contribute to navigating the chaos ahead.
