I have steam1.08 Ultimate shooting edition - public tools wont work

Public tools says the version of F.E.A.R is incompatible. and wont launch. I seriously appreciate VR mods but sometimes you guys make them confusing to install and the HD textures mod pooched the game entirely. I get an error message on launch after installing it. standard install locale C:/progfilesX86/steam/steamapps/common/fear ultimate etc.

I feel exactly the same. The install instructions are not clear enough.

It took me longer than it should have to find out that FEAR Public Tools v2 can be substituted. https://www.moddb.com/games/fear/downloads/fear-public-tools-v2

And I agree, the instructions are quite lacking. Between that and the overall lack of support, I'll be holding out for the mod being developed by TheFreeMike instead.

Thanks to Django747 I installed Public tools V2 in the Steam F.E.A.R folder not the Sierra one that it wanted to create. Not sure if that made a difference - Also (obviously) launched from fearVR Steamvr launcher rather than the game launcher. so far works perfectly, some tearing and a low resolution but I should be able to fix that. The only other thing is the green box (lines) around the weapon but i can live with that.

Be sure to change value in registry before installing public tools.

"The old installer expects registry value Patch=8, while Steam normally uses 10. Set it to 8 for installation and restore 10 afterwards:"
