add logic to deal with buffers running too low

Some files have long streaks of video or audio packets. In current implementation, this can result in buffers not getting filled properly and as consequence, skipped/dropped frames.

Investigate potential solutions, like making resizable buffers or just increasing (initial) buffer size.
