First of all, I just wanted to say that I find VideoCull exceptionally well done and useful. It is a really nice piece of software, and I particularly appreciate how well thought-out the workflow is and how lean the overall package feels.
While using it, a couple of ideas occurred to me that might be worth considering:
1. Light mode
Would it be possible to have a Light / Dark mode option in Settings?
I like the current dark interface, but having the choice of a light theme could be useful in brighter environments. It also seems like the kind of small usability option that could benefit quite a few users.
2. Random Review
Another idea would be to have a Random option for Review.
At the moment, reviewing videos in a defined order (alphabetical, date added, date edited, etc.) makes perfect sense, and there are certainly situations where that is preferable.
But there are also times when it can be useful to simply work through a collection in random order. For example, when culling a large set of videos, seeing the files in a different order can make the process feel less repetitive and avoid always encountering the same kinds of material together.
Perhaps there could be something along the lines of:
Review
Review – Random
The idea would be that starting a Random Review creates a random order for the current pool of videos, while the actual Review workflow remains unchanged: one video is presented, a decision is made, Next is pressed, and another video is presented.
Each time a new Random Review is started, the order would be randomized again.
I don't think this would need to affect the underlying ordering of the collection at all; it would simply change the order in which Review presents the items.
It's something I've found particularly useful when dealing with larger collections, and I suspect it could be a generally useful addition for others as well.
And, as a little aside: I noticed that there doesn't seem to be an obvious way to contact you outside GitHub. I've been enjoying VideoCull enough that I could actually be interested in discussing some other ideas around media management with you at some point, if you're open to that of course :) but I'm perfectly happy to do that here if that's your preferred way of communicating.
