Audio

Progress: 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 100%

All music & SFX have been preserved. No more tools are needed.

The game credits Loudmouth for music.

Next step:

  • Review: Audio Manifest for missing entries and update the manifest.
  • Research needed: The game credits Sound Ideas® sound effects library. This may reveal where audio was sourced and lead to other SFX with simular atmosphere to Cyberstorm.

Music

Music came in multiple formats and quality to allow users to choose their install footprint (expect duplicates).

SFX

Four hundred thirty-nine files have been preserved. A document Audio Manifest is used to track the file's name and its content in an intellegent mannor.

XXX

The single file, DIGIPRI.XXX, is a compressed copy of the Miles DirectSound driver. The .xxx extension is used to prevent Microsoft Windows from treating the file as a .dll and interfering with the process. This approach also avoids the versioning conflicts and “DLL hell” issues that were common during the Windows 9x era.

Tools used

.wax files were converted useing SoX into .wav files. SoX cannot convert the file directly and needs addtional context fed into the conversion process. The application wax2wav.py is used to supply SoX with everything needed for the conversion.

Windows Media Player Legacy was used to convert the CD audio into the modern .flac & .mp3 formats.
