we upgraded angular firebase in efforts getting app working, but now many imports are deprecated, paticular relating to auth
efforts to create auth for the application were pretty half baked. may want to consider gutting the existing and start from scratch
with the current best practices for firebase. what we have now is pretty big mess/ headache
