make clean doesn't cause recompilation

I tried to change the code in 01-helloworld in order to see a change, but I can't make it work. Hopefully I missed something here and the problem is just me.

I expect make clean to trigger a full rebuild of the project.

If this can't be fixed (because maybe make is too cool?) could I get a command which will trigger a recompilation?

OK so bear with me because these makefiles are soon going to change with the newest ngdevkit 0.5.
Right now, there's no dependency tracking between the cartridge that you built and the P-ROM itself, so you need to run make && make gngeo to run your code.

re-running make should rebuild the main.c -> p-rom -> cartridge zip.

This week the makefile will change a bit, and you'll be able run do make && make mame as well. Another was unhappy about this double build, so I'll fix that as well, but likely not this week.

Can you tell if that works for you? Otherwise there might be something else that I overlooked with these demos

You are so correct!

I was being stupid because I have been using the EXACT same trick a bunch of times! Typing make is a LOT easier than typing ./.

When I'm generating PDFs with pandoc/quarto I usually create a rule which I can trigger with make view, which just launches my PDF viewer with the correct filename.

So what's planned for v0.5? Ninja? That would be cool.

Btw, don't make things more complicated by fixing this. I'm the one who was being stupid here. Now that I know how things are set up I wouldn't want in some other way.

Instead: May I suggest you leave the make rules as they are (unless it's gonna be ninja) and update and/or mess around with the readme files instead?
I'm thinking that there could be an new document called TUTORIAL.md, which would live alongside README.md.
Once I figure stuff out I can help work on something like this.

Yes I'll see what it takes in term of complexity.
One of the reasons I don't want to change everything now is that I added support for MAME and I plan to do it for FbNeo soon, so I don't want to tweak too much before this support lands.
