Sync Linux 6.6 with a broad set of upstream fixes and enhancements spanning hardware support, kernel subsystems, device recovery, performance monitoring, and user-facing interfaces.

New Features:

  • Add legacy "ntfs" filesystem registration support to ntfs3.
  • Add Granite Rapids IMC uncore performance monitoring events.
  • Add QAT VF restart-completion notification and expanded error handling support.

Bug Fixes:

  • Fix architecture, driver, networking, wireless, IOMMU, scheduler, and sound issues synchronized from mainline, including resource cleanup, bounds checks, runtime power management, DMA handling, PMU constraints, and device recovery paths.
  • Correct Intel IAA compression request handling and error propagation.
  • Improve MT7996, RTW89, MEI, SOF, and other device-driver behavior for initialization, concurrency, suspend/resume, and error recovery.

Enhancements:

  • Synchronize broad upstream kernel fixes across documentation, architectures, accelerators, cryptography, graphics, IOMMU, networking, platform drivers, scheduling, filesystems, and audio subsystems.
  • Improve scheduler deadline-server state management and accounting.
  • Refine QAT capability detection, reset restoration, RAS reporting, arbiter control, and PF/VF restart coordination.

Documentation:

  • Update driver, filesystem, networking, hardware-monitoring, and crypto documentation to reflect current interfaces and supported functionality.

Tests:

  • Add a module description for the floating-point test glue.

POWER throws a splat at boot, it looks like the DMA ops were probably
changed while a driver was attached. Something is still weird about how
power sequences its bootup. Previously this was hidden since the core
iommu code did nothing during probe, now it calls
spapr_tce_platform_iommu_attach_dev().

Make spapr_tce_platform_iommu_attach_dev() do nothing on the probe time
call like it did before.

CONFIG_INTEL_MEI_VSC_HW can be set to built-in even with CONFIG_MEI=m,
but then the driver is not built because Kbuild never enters the
drivers/misc/mei directory for built-in files, leading to a link

Add an explicit dependency on CONFIG_MEI that was apparently missing,

The ACP driver for Vangogh platform uses a quirk for Valve Galileo
device to setup a custom firmware loader, which neither requires nor
uses the firmware file indicated via the default_fw_filename member of
struct sof_dev_desc.

Since commit 6c393eb ("ASoC: SOF: core: Implement IPC version
fallback if firmware files are missing"), the provided filename gets
verified and triggers a fatal error on probe:

According to AMD, a combined ".ri" file which includes the code and data
segments cannot be used due to a limitation preventing the code image to
be signed on build time.

Fix the issue by skipping the firmware file test if a custom loader is
being used instead of the generic one.

Previously with tegra-smmu, even with CONFIG_IOMMU_DMA, the default domain
could have been left as NULL. The NULL domain is specially recognized by
host1x_client_iommu_attach() as meaning it is not the DMA domain and
should be replaced with the special shared domain.

This happened prior to the below commit because tegra-smmu was using the
NULL domain to mean IDENTITY.

Now that the domain is properly labled the test in DRM doesn't see NULL.
Check for IDENTITY as well to enable the special domains.

The commit 2ad56ef ("powerpc/iommu: Setup a default domain and
remove set_platform_dma_ops") refactored the code removing the
set_platform_dma_ops(). It missed out the table group
release_ownership() call which would have got called otherwise
during the guest shutdown via vfio_group_detach_container(). On
PPC64, this particular call actually sets up the 32-bit TCE table,
and enables the 64-bit DMA bypass etc. Now after guest shutdown,
the subsequent host driver (e.g megaraid-sas) probe post unbind
from vfio-pci fails like,

Johan Hovold reported that removing the legacy ntfs driver broke boot
for him since his fstab uses the legacy ntfs driver to access firmware
from the original Windows partition.

Use ntfs3 as an alias for legacy ntfs if CONFIG_NTFS_FS is selected.
This is similar to how ext3 is treated.

When building a 32-bit kernel, some toolchains do not allow mixing soft
float and hard float object files:

This is not an issue when building a 64-bit kernel. To unbreak the
build, limit ARCH_HAS_KERNEL_FPU_SUPPORT to 64-bit kernels. This is okay
because the only real user of this option, amdgpu, was previously
limited to PPC64 anyway; see commit a28e4b6 ("drm/amd/display: use
ARCH_HAS_KERNEL_FPU_SUPPORT").

Commit 66601a2 ("leds: class: If no default trigger is given, make
hw_control trigger the default trigger") causes ledtrig-netdev to get
set as default trigger on various network LEDs.

This causes users to hit a pre-existing AB-BA deadlock issue in
ledtrig-netdev between the LED-trigger locks and the rtnl mutex,
resulting in hung tasks in kernels >= 6.9.

Solving the deadlock is non trivial, so for now revert the change to
set the hw_control trigger as default trigger, so that ledtrig-netdev
no longer gets activated automatically for various network LEDs.

The netdev trigger is not needed because the network LEDs are usually under
hw-control and the netdev trigger tries to leave things that way so setting
it as the active trigger for the LED class device is a no-op.

After iova_bitmap_set_ahead() returns it may be at the end of the range.
Move iova_bitmap_set_ahead() earlier to avoid unnecessary attempt in
trying to pin the next pages by reusing iova_bitmap_done() check.

Since commit e2ffcda ("ACPI: OSL: Allow Notify () handlers to run on
all CPUs") ACPI notify handlers like the intel-vbtn notify_handler() may
run on multiple CPU cores racing with themselves.

This race gets hit on Dell Venue 7140 tablets when undocking from
the keyboard, causing the handler to try and register priv->switches_dev
twice, as can be seen from the dev_info() message getting logged twice:

When the PFVF protocol was updated to support version 5, i.e.
ADF_PFVF_COMPAT_FALLBACK, the compatibility version for the VF was
updated without supporting the message RESTARTING_COMPLETE required for
such version.

Add support for the ADF_VF2PF_MSGTYPE_RESTARTING_COMPLETE message in the
VF drivers. This message is sent by the VF driver to the PF to notify
the completion of the shutdown flow.

In the process of sending the ADF_PF2VF_MSGTYPE_RESTARTING message to
Virtual Functions (VFs), the Physical Function (PF) should set the
`vf->restarting` flag to true before dispatching the message.
This change is necessary to prevent a race condition where the handling
of the ADF_VF2PF_MSGTYPE_RESTARTING_COMPLETE message (which sets the
`vf->restarting` flag to false) runs immediately after the message is sent,
but before the flag is set to true.

Set the `vf->restarting` to true before sending the message
ADF_PF2VF_MSGTYPE_RESTARTING, if supported by the version of the
protocol and if the VF is started.

The free_device_compression_mode(iaa_device, device_mode) function frees
"device_mode" but it iss passed to iaa_compression_modes[i]->free() a few
lines later resulting in a use after free.

The good news is that, so far as I can tell, nothing implements the
->free() function and the use after free happens in dead code.  But, with
this fix, when something does implement it, we'll be ready.  :)

test_bit() is used to read the memory storing the bitmap, however
test_bit() always uses a unsigned long 8 byte access.

If the bitmap is not an aligned size of 64 bits this will now trigger a
KASAN warning reading past the end of the buffer.

Properly round the buffer allocation to an unsigned long size. Continue to
copy_from_user() using a byte granularity.

In dl_server_start(), when schedstats is enabled, the following
happens:

  dl_server_start()

    enqueue_dl_entity()
      update_stats_enqueue_dl()
        __schedstats_from_dl_se()
          dl_task_of()
            BUG_ON(dl_server(dl_se));

Since only tasks have schedstats and internal entries do not, avoid
trying to update stats in this case.

Instead of constraining the ALSA buffer time to be double of the firmware
host buffer size, it is better to set it for the period time.
This will implicitly constrain the buffer time to a safe value
(num_periods is at least 2) and prohibits applications to set smaller
period size than what will be covered by the initial DMA burst.

It is allowed to mix Link and Host DMA channels in a way that their index
is different. In this case we would read the LLP from a channel which is
not used or used for other operation.

Such case can be reproduced on cAVS2.5 or ACE1 platforms with soundwire
configuration:
playback to SDW would take Host channel 0 (stream_tag 1) and no Link DMA
used
Second playback to HDMI (HDA) would use Host channel 1 (stream_tag 2) and
Link channel 0 (stream_tag 1).

In this case reading the LLP from channel 2 is incorrect as that is not the
Link channel used for the HDMI playback.

To correct this, we should look up the BE and get the channel used on the
Link side.

The save_iaa_wq() function unconditionally returns 0, even when an error
is encountered. This prevents the error code from being propagated to the
caller.

Fix this by returning the 'ret' variable, which holds the actual status
of the operations within the function.

On Tegra platforms using ACPI, the SMCCC driver already registers the
SoC device. This makes the registration performed by the Tegra fuse
driver redundant.

When booted via ACPI, skip registering the SoC device and suppress
printing SKU information from the Tegra fuse driver, as this information
is already provided by the SMCCC driver.

The local variable 'i' is initialized with -EINVAL, but the for loop
immediately overwrites it and -EINVAL is never returned.

If no empty compression mode can be found, the function would return the
out-of-bounds index IAA_COMP_MODES_MAX, which would cause an invalid
array access in add_iaa_compression_mode().

Fix both issues by returning either a valid index or -EINVAL.

The restarting message from PF to VF is sent twice during AER error
handling: once from adf_error_detected() and again from
adf_disable_sriov().
This causes userspace subservices to shutdown unexpectedly when they
receive a duplicate restarting message after already being restarted.

Avoid calling adf_pf2vf_notify_restarting() and
adf_pf2vf_wait_for_restarting_complete() from adf_error_detected() so
that the restarting msg is sent only once from PF to VF.

IMC on SPR and EMR does not support sub-channels.  In contrast, CPUs
that use gnr_uncores[] (e.g. Granite Rapids and Sierra Forest)
implement two command schedulers (SCH0/SCH1) per memory channel,
providing logically independent command and data paths.

Do not reuse the spr_uncore_imc[] configuration for these CPUs.
Instead, introduce a dedicated gnr_uncore_imc[] with per-scheduler
events, so userspace can monitor SCH0 and SCH1 independently.

On these CPUs, replace cas_count_{read,write} with
cas_count_{read,write}_sch{0,1}.  This may break existing userspace
that relies on cas_count_{read,write}, prompting it to switch to the
per-scheduler events, as the legacy event reports only partial
traffic (SCH0).

Let's say we bind() an UDP socket to the wildcard address with a
non-zero port, connect() it to an address, and disconnect it from
the address.

bind() sets SOCK_BINDPORT_LOCK on sk->sk_userlocks (but not
SOCK_BINDADDR_LOCK), and connect() calls udp_lib_hash4() to put
the socket into the 4-tuple hash table.

Then, __udp_disconnect() calls sk->sk_prot->rehash(sk).

It computes a new hash based on the wildcard address and moves
the socket to a new slot in the 4-tuple hash table, leaving a
garbage in the chain that no packet hits.

Let's remove such a socket from 4-tuple hash table when disconnected.

Note that udp_sk(sk)->udp_portaddr_hash needs to be udpated after
udp_hash4_dec(hslot2) in udp_unhash4().

code completes found instead. This can lead to issues such as NULL pointer

When running the command:

The warning occurs because the second "instructions:p" event, which
involves branch counters sampling, is incorrectly programmed to fixed
counter 0 instead of the general-purpose (GP) counters 0-3 that support
branch counters sampling. Currently only GP counters 0-3 support branch
counters sampling on CWF, any event involving branch counters sampling
should be programed on GP counters 0-3. Since the counter index of fixed
counter 0 is 32, it leads to the "src" value in below code is right
shifted 64 bits and trigger the "shift-out-of-bounds" warning.

The root cause is the loss of the branch counters constraint for the
new event in the branch counters sampling event group. Since it isn't
yet part of the sibling list. This results in the second
"instructions:p" event being programmed on fixed counter 0 incorrectly
instead of the appropriate GP counters 0-3.

To address this, we apply the missing branch counters constraint for
the last event in the group. Additionally, we introduce a new function,
`intel_set_branch_counter_constr()`, to apply the branch counters
constraint and avoid code duplication.

When the AUTONOMOUS_UFS_DISABLED bit is set in the header, the ELC
(Efficiency Latency Control) feature is non-functional. Hence, return
error for read or write to ELC attributes.

Auto counter reload may have a group of events with software events
present within it. The software event PMU isn't the x86_hybrid_pmu and
a container_of operation in intel_pmu_set_acr_caused_constr (via the
hybrid helper) could cause out of bound memory reads. Avoid this by
guarding the call to intel_pmu_set_acr_caused_constr with an
is_x86_event check.

ADF_RAS_ERR_CTR_READ() expands to atomic_read(), which returns int.
The local variable 'counter' was declared as 'unsigned long', causing
a type mismatch on the assignment. The format specifier '%ld' was
consequently wrong in two ways: wrong length modifier and wrong
signedness.

Use int to match the return type of atomic_read() and update the
format specifier to '%d' accordingly.

A yield-triggered crash can happen when a newly forked sched_entity
enters the fair class with se->rel_deadline unexpectedly set.

The failing sequence is:

  1. A task is forked while se->rel_deadline is still set.
  2. __sched_fork() initializes vruntime, vlag and other sched_entity
     state, but does not clear rel_deadline.
  3. On the first enqueue, enqueue_entity() calls place_entity().
  4. Because se->rel_deadline is set, place_entity() treats se->deadline
     as a relative deadline and converts it to an absolute deadline by
     adding the current vruntime.
  5. However, the forked entity's deadline is not a valid inherited
     relative deadline for this new scheduling instance, so the conversion
     produces an abnormally large deadline.
  6. If the task later calls sched_yield(), yield_task_fair() advances
     se->vruntime to se->deadline.
  7. The inflated vruntime is then used by the following enqueue path,
     where the vruntime-derived key can overflow when multiplied by the
     entity weight.
  8. This corrupts cfs_rq->sum_w_vruntime, breaks EEVDF eligibility
     calculation, and can eventually make all entities appear ineligible.
     pick_next_entity() may then return NULL unexpectedly, leading to a
     later NULL dereference.

A captured trace shows the effect clearly. Before yield, the entity's
vruntime was around:

  9834017729983308

After yield_task_fair() executed:

  se->vruntime = se->deadline

the vruntime jumped to:

  19668035460670230

and the deadline was later advanced further to:

  19668035463470230

This shows that the deadline had already become abnormally large before
yield_task_fair() copied it into vruntime.

rel_deadline is only meaningful when se->deadline really carries a
relative deadline that still needs to be placed against vruntime. A
freshly forked sched_entity should not inherit or retain this state.
Clear se->rel_deadline in __sched_fork(), together with the other
sched_entity runtime state, so that the first enqueue does not interpret
the new entity's deadline as a stale relative deadline.

rtw89 stores an ieee80211_hw pointer via pci_set_drvdata() at probe
time, but io_error_detected() and io_resume() retrieve it as a
net_device pointer.  This causes netif_device_detach/attach to
operate on an ieee80211_hw struct, reading and writing at wrong
offsets.  The adjacent io_slot_reset() already does it correctly.

Use ieee80211_stop_queues/wake_queues instead, consistent with
every other queue stop/start path in the driver.

Tested on RTL8852CE by calling the handlers from a test module
before and after the fix.

The mac_id field in RX descriptors is 8 bits wide (0-255), but
assoc_link_on_macid[] has only RTW89_MAX_MAC_ID_NUM (128) entries.
While the driver currently assigns mac_id values below 128, the
descriptor value comes from firmware and is not validated before use
as an array index. Add a defensive bounds check in
rtw89_assoc_link_rcu_dereference() to guard against out-of-range
firmware values.

The current implementation of the heartbeat error injection uses
adf_disable_arb_thd() to stop a specific accelerator engine thread
from processing requests. This does not reliably prevent the device
from generating responses.

Fix the error injection by disabling the device arbiter through
exit_arb() instead. This properly simulates a device failure by
stopping all arbitration, which results in missing responses for
sent requests.

Remove the now unused adf_disable_arb_thd() function and its
declaration.

Currently there are several issues on the user space ACR mask validation
and configuration.
- The validation for user space ACR mask (attr.config2) is incomplete,
  e.g., the ACR mask could include the index which belongs to another
  ACR events group, but it's not validated.
- An early return on an invalid ACR mask caused all subsequent ACR groups
  to be skipped.
- The stale hardware ACR mask (hw.config1) is not cleared before setting
  new hardware ACR mask.

The following changes address all of the above issues.
- Figure out the event index group of an ACR group. Any bits in the
  user-space mask not present in the index group are now dropped.
- Instead of an early return on invalid bits, drop only the invalid
  portions and continue iterating through all ACR events to ensure full
  configuration.
- Explicitly clear the stale hardware ACR mask for each event prior to
  writing the new configuration.

Besides, a non-leader event member of ACR group could be disabled in
theory. This could cause bit-shifting errors in the acr_mask of remaining
group members. But since ACR sampling requires all events to be active,
this should not be a big concern in real use case. Add a "FIXME" comment
to notice this risk.
