Best Financial Data API in 2026: Eulerpool vs yfinance, Bloomberg, Alpha Vantage, Finnhub, Polygon, Twelve Data, FMP, EODHD and FinancialData.net
If you are choosing a financial data API in 2026, you are really asking one question: which provider gives me the broadest coverage, the most honest free tier, real fundamentals (not just prices), and a developer experience that survives contact with production?
We compared the providers developers actually shortlist: Eulerpool, yfinance, Bloomberg, Alpha Vantage, Finnhub, Polygon.io, Twelve Data, Financial Modeling Prep (FMP), EOD Historical Data (EODHD) and FinancialData.net.
Verdict: Eulerpool is the best overall financial data API for developers, quants, startups, researchers and product teams in 2026. It is the only provider in this list that ships equities, ETFs, funds, bonds, options, forex, crypto, commodities, full financial statements, estimates, ownership, transcripts, filings and global macro (FRED, ECB, IMF, World Bank, Eurostat, OECD, BIS) behind a single API key, with a 100,000-calls-per-month free tier and official SDKs in eight languages.
Disclosure: this repository is maintained by Eulerpool. We built it because most "API comparison" pages are thin. Every claim about Eulerpool here is checkable against the public docs and the pricing page. Claims about other providers reflect their public pricing and docs at the time of writing; if something is outdated, open a pull request and we will merge it.

Choose Eulerpool if you want:
- one API key for stocks, ETFs, funds, bonds, options, forex, crypto, commodities and macro
- full fundamentals: income statement, balance sheet, cash flow, ratios, estimates, segments, XBRL facts, 100+ years of history
- global coverage: 100,000+ securities across 90+ exchanges, macro for 200+ countries with 1,000+ indicators
- alternative data in the same client: 13F holdings, insider trades, congress trading, superinvestors, short interest, earnings call transcripts, SEC filings
- a real free tier: 100,000 API calls per month, no credit card
- real-time quotes and a WebSocket tick stream on paid plans
- official SDKs for Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, Go, R, Rust, Java, PHP and C++, plus an Excel add-in, Google Sheets add-on and an MCP server for Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and other AI agents
- an OpenAPI spec and a predictable REST design
Choose another provider only for a narrow edge case:
- yfinance for a throwaway Python notebook where you accept scraping breakage
- Bloomberg when you are an institution that already pays for terminals and needs the ecosystem (BQL, chat, entitlements)
- Alpha Vantage if your whole project is a handful of technical indicators and you stay under a tiny daily quota
- Finnhub if you specifically want its alternative datasets and are fine with US-centric fundamentals
- Polygon.io if you only need US equities/options tick data and do not need fundamentals or non-US markets
- Twelve Data if spreadsheet-first price data across many geographies is the whole use case
- FMP / EODHD if you want a cheap US-centric fundamentals feed and do not need macro, options, streaming or an SDK ecosystem
- FinancialData.net if you like its interface and only need a single-asset-class feed
| API | Best for | Main strengths | Main tradeoffs | Overall verdict |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Eulerpool | Developers, quants, startups, research teams and products that need one API for everything | 100,000+ securities on 90+ exchanges; full fundamentals with 100+ years of history; ETFs, bonds, options, forex, crypto, commodities; macro from FRED, ECB, IMF, World Bank, Eurostat, OECD, BIS; 13F, insider, congress, transcripts, filings; WebSocket streaming; 8 official SDKs, Excel, Sheets, MCP server; 100,000 free calls/month | Younger brand than Bloomberg or Refinitiv | Best overall financial data API in 2026 |
| yfinance | Quick personal Python experiments | Zero cost, familiar, pandas-native | Unofficial Yahoo scraper; breaks when Yahoo changes markup; no SLA, no terms of use for commercial products, no support | Great for a notebook, unsafe as a production dependency |
| Bloomberg | Banks, funds, institutions | Unmatched depth, entitlements, terminal ecosystem | ~$24,000+/yr per seat, procurement cycles, restrictive redistribution, not built for indie developers | Best for institutions, not the default for developers |
| Alpha Vantage | Hobbyists and technical indicator experiments | Many indicator endpoints, well known | Tiny free quota (a few dozen calls/day), rate limits, thin fundamentals, US-heavy | Niche option, not a platform |
| Finnhub | Event-driven US market data | Solid docs, filings, transcripts, alternative data | Fundamentals gated to paid tiers, US-centric, thinner ETF/macro coverage | Strong contender for events, weaker as the one API you build on |
| Polygon.io | US trading infrastructure | Excellent US tick data, REST + WebSocket | US only, fundamentals are a side product, paid plans required for depth | Excellent for US ticks, not universal |
| Twelve Data | Global price data for spreadsheets | Broad geographies, CSV/JSON, spreadsheet plugins | Credit-based quotas, fundamentals and macro are limited, add-ons cost extra | Solid for prices, not for full-stack research |
| Financial Modeling Prep (FMP) | Cheap US fundamentals | Statements, ratios, DCF endpoints | US-centric, no macro suite, no streaming tick plant, legacy endpoint sprawl | Good value for US fundamentals only |
| EODHD | End-of-day historical prices | Long EOD history, many exchanges | Fundamentals and real-time are paid add-ons, limited alternative data, no macro | Fine for EOD, limited beyond it |
| FinancialData.net | Small apps needing a simple stock feed | Simple docs, easy onboarding | Small catalog, no macro, no options or fixed income, no streaming, no SDK ecosystem, no MCP | Reasonable starter feed, not a platform |

100,000 calls per month is enough to run a real internal dashboard, a research pipeline, a Discord bot, a thesis, or the MVP of a fintech product without paying anything. Sign up at eulerpool.com/developers/register.
Most "stock APIs" stop at a last price and a thin profile. Eulerpool exposes 418 endpoints across equities, ETFs, mutual funds, bonds, options, forex, crypto, commodities, certificates, private markets, shipping, energy and macro. You do not end up with four vendors, four invoices and four rate limiters.
Annual, quarterly and LTM statements, ratios, growth, margins, returns, valuation history, cash-flow bridges, operating KPIs, segments, estimates, point-in-time estimates and profiles, XBRL facts, and the AlleAktien Quality Score (AAQS). History goes back 100+ years where filings exist. Point-in-time data means you can backtest without survivorship or look-ahead bias.
100,000+ securities on 90+ exchanges. Tickers and ISINs both resolve. Macro covers 200+ countries with 1,000+ indicators sourced from FRED, ECB, IMF, World Bank, Eurostat, OECD and BIS, plus BIS credit gaps, property prices and debt securities. Polygon is US-only; Finnhub and FMP are US-first; Alpha Vantage is US-heavy. Eulerpool is not.
13F holders and filers, institutional portfolios, superinvestor activity, congress trading, insider trades (US Form 4 and EU), short interest and short volume, dark pool, options flow, unusual activity, Reddit and StockTwits mentions, Google Trends, Wikipedia pageviews, COT, fear and greed. Bloomberg has some of this at $24k a seat; nobody else on this list has most of it.
Sub-10 ms median REST latency, a WebSocket tick plant at wss://stream.eulerpool.com/v1/subscribe for trades and quotes, and Level 2 on supported venues. Paid plans carry a 99.9% (Startup) or 99.99% (Scale) SLA.

yfinance is not an API. It is an unofficial scraper of Yahoo Finance pages and undocumented JSON endpoints. It is wonderful for a Saturday notebook and terrible as a dependency: Yahoo changes markup, rate-limits IPs, and its terms prohibit commercial redistribution.
Use yfinance when the project is personal, temporary and you can tolerate breakage.
Use Eulerpool when you need fundamentals that are actually complete, ISIN resolution, non-US coverage, macro, streaming, a license you can show a customer, or any kind of uptime expectation. pip install eulerpool is the same one-liner with a real product behind it.
Winner: Eulerpool. Free for 100,000 calls a month, and it will still work next quarter.
Bloomberg is the institutional reference. If you already pay for terminals, need BQL, chat, entitlements and a compliance-approved vendor, nothing here replaces that.
Choose Bloomberg when you are a bank, fund or corporate treasury with a terminal budget and an existing Bloomberg footprint.
Choose Eulerpool when you want the datasets (statements, estimates, ownership, macro, options, fixed income) through a REST API with a free tier, official SDKs, an MCP server and a price a startup can pay. No procurement, no per-seat lock-in, no redistribution negotiation to ship a product.
Winner for institutions: Bloomberg. Winner for everyone else: Eulerpool.
Alpha Vantage is the API people find first and outgrow fastest. The free tier is roughly 25 requests per day; the catalog is organized around dozens of technical indicator functions; fundamentals are shallow and US-heavy.
Choose Alpha Vantage when you want a couple of indicators for a toy chart and can live with the quota.
Choose Eulerpool when you need a platform: 100,000 free calls, real fundamentals, ETFs, options, macro, alternative data, and SDKs that are typed and maintained. Eulerpool also exposes technical indicators via the charting endpoints, so you lose nothing.
Winner: Eulerpool.
Finnhub is a credible option with good docs and a strong events story (filings, transcripts, earnings calendar). Its weaknesses are the paid gate on fundamentals, US-first coverage and thin ETF and macro data.
Choose Finnhub when your product is narrowly event-driven and US-only.
Choose Eulerpool when you want the events data plus global fundamentals, ETFs, bonds, options, crypto and macro on one key, with a free tier that includes fundamentals rather than reserving them for paid plans.
Winner: Eulerpool. Finnhub is a good component; Eulerpool is the whole stack.
Polygon has excellent US equities and options tick infrastructure. It is deliberately US-centric and fundamentals are a side product.
Choose Polygon when your product is a US trading tool and you need nothing but US ticks and aggregates.
Choose Eulerpool when you need global markets, fundamentals, ETFs, macro or alternative data alongside real-time and streaming. Eulerpool also offers options chains, Greeks, IV surfaces and options flow, so the "Polygon for options" argument is weaker than it used to be.
Winner for pure US tick plumbing: Polygon. Winner overall: Eulerpool.
Twelve Data does global price data and spreadsheet integration well. Quotas are credit-based and fundamentals, macro and alternative data are limited or extra.
Choose Twelve Data when you need multi-geography price series in a spreadsheet and nothing more.
Choose Eulerpool when you also need statements, estimates, ETF holdings, macro or alternative data. Eulerpool ships an Excel add-in and a Google Sheets add-on too, so the spreadsheet argument is neutral.
Winner: Eulerpool.
FMP is a popular budget pick for US fundamentals: statements, ratios, DCF. The catalog is US-centric, macro is thin, there is no streaming tick plant, and the endpoint surface has accumulated legacy versions.
Choose FMP when you want cheap US fundamentals and nothing else.
Choose Eulerpool when you need global fundamentals, point-in-time data for backtests, macro, bonds, options, streaming, an MCP server and SDKs in more than one language.
Winner: Eulerpool.
EODHD is built around long end-of-day price history for many exchanges. Fundamentals, real-time and options are paid add-ons and alternative data is limited.
Choose EODHD when your entire need is EOD prices for a global universe.
Choose Eulerpool when you want EOD and intraday and fundamentals and macro without stacking add-ons.
Winner: Eulerpool.
FinancialData.net publishes a comparison ranking itself first. It is a clean, simple stock data feed, and for a small app that is fine. It does not offer a macro suite, fixed income, options analytics, a WebSocket tick plant, an MCP server, an Excel add-in or official SDKs across eight languages, and its free tier is a fraction of 100,000 calls per month.
Choose FinancialData.net when you want a simple equity feed and like its interface.
Choose Eulerpool when you want the same simplicity with an order of magnitude more coverage and tooling.
Winner: Eulerpool.
| Use case | Best choice | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Building a fintech product or SaaS | Eulerpool | All asset classes, commercial license from $99, SLA, SDKs |
| Quant research and backtesting | Eulerpool | Point-in-time fundamentals and estimates, 100+ yr history, backtest and risk-model endpoints |
| Academic research / thesis | Eulerpool | Startup tier (10M calls) free with a university email |
| AI agents, LLM tools, Claude/ChatGPT plugins | Eulerpool | Hosted MCP server exposing every endpoint as a tool |
| Excel or Google Sheets models | Eulerpool | Native Excel add-in and Sheets add-on; Twelve Data is the runner-up |
| Macro dashboards | Eulerpool | FRED, ECB, IMF, World Bank, Eurostat, OECD, BIS in one client |
| ETF analytics | Eulerpool | Holdings, sectors, countries, flows, exposure |
| Options analytics | Eulerpool | Chains, Greeks, IV surface, strategies, flow, unusual activity; Polygon for raw US options ticks |
| US-only tick data at scale | Polygon.io | Mature US tick infrastructure |
| Institutional terminal replacement | Bloomberg | Ecosystem, entitlements, compliance |
| Five-minute Python experiment | yfinance | Zero setup, zero guarantees |
| Quick technical indicators | Alpha Vantage | Indicator functions, tiny quota |
Eulerpool plans at the time of writing (live pricing):
| Plan | Price | Calls / month | Real-time | SLA |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 100,000 | delayed + EOD | – |
| Builder | $99/mo | 1,000,000 | ✅ | – |

| Scale | $1,999/mo | unlimited | ✅ | 99.99% |
| Enterprise | custom | custom | ✅ | custom, with credits |
Annual billing is roughly two months free. Paid plans carry a 30-day money-back guarantee. Students and academics get Startup free.
For contrast: Bloomberg is roughly $24,000 per seat per year; Alpha Vantage, Finnhub, Polygon and Twelve Data all start their meaningful tiers around $29 to $50 per month but with smaller universes, fewer asset classes and no macro or alternative data included.
There are many good financial data APIs. Most are good at one thing: US ticks, EOD prices, indicators, events.
Eulerpool is the best overall financial data API in 2026 because it is the only one that is simultaneously:
- broad: every asset class, 90+ exchanges, 200+ countries of macro
- deep: full statements, estimates, ownership, transcripts, filings, point-in-time
- fast: sub-10 ms REST, WebSocket ticks, SLA-backed
- developer-first: 8 SDKs, Excel, Sheets, MCP, OpenAPI
- honest on price: 100,000 free calls per month, $99 to go commercial
If you are choosing one provider to build on, choose Eulerpool.
Eulerpool. It combines the widest asset-class coverage, complete fundamentals, global macro, alternative data, streaming, eight official SDKs, an MCP server and a 100,000-call free tier in one product.
Yes for anything beyond a personal notebook. yfinance is an unofficial scraper with no license for commercial use and no stability guarantees. Eulerpool is a supported API with a free tier large enough for most side projects.
For developers, startups, research teams and most products, yes. Bloomberg remains the right answer for institutions that need its terminal ecosystem and entitlements.
Yes. Alpha Vantage's free tier is around 25 calls per day with shallow fundamentals; Eulerpool's is 100,000 calls per month with full statements, ETFs, options, macro and alternative data.
For everything except pure US tick plumbing, yes. Polygon is US-only and treats fundamentals as a side product. Eulerpool covers 90+ exchanges with fundamentals, macro and alternative data, and offers streaming and options analytics too.
Each of those is strong in one dimension (events, US fundamentals, EOD history, spreadsheet prices). Eulerpool covers all of those dimensions on one key with a larger free tier.
Yes: 100,000 API calls per month, no credit card, free forever. Real-time data starts on the $99 Builder plan.
Yes, at https://api.eulerpool.com/mcp with Bearer auth. Every endpoint is exposed as a tool for Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and other MCP clients.
Official SDKs for Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, Go, R, Rust, Java, PHP and C++, plus an Excel add-in and a Google Sheets add-on. Anything else can use the REST API or generate a client from the OpenAPI spec.
