Cause found, so closing this.

The release job downloads its helper scripts from homebridge/.github into .github/scripts/ inside the checkout, and then runs npm publish. That fires prepublishOnly, which lints the repo — including the files it just downloaded. Two of those scripts are tab-indented, so lint fails and the publish never happens.

It fails after the GitHub release and tag are created, which is why there was a tag with nothing on npm behind it. I have removed that tag and release, so GitHub and npm line up again.

Nothing wrong in this repo. The fix is in the shared workflow: homebridge/.github#51 moves the downloads into $RUNNER_TEMP so they never land in the working tree. Releases here will work again once that merges.
