On November 5 mkdocs-material will be EOLed. Spotted this release notes of latest upgrade: #1681
The TL;DR of the link above is that mkdocs v1 is no longer maintained and the team behind mkdocs-material is building a compatible/drop-in replacement. There will be soon a release for mkdocs v2, but apparently mkdocs-material won't follow that.
Because of the EOL we will need in any case to migrate away, but we have to choose towards what.
