Hey, I'm Jorge πŸ‘‹

Software Engineer Β· Backend Β· Full Stack Β· Automation

I like building practical software that removes friction, automates annoying work, and occasionally escapes the screen into actual hardware.

πŸ‘¨β€πŸ’» What I build

Most of my projects start with the same question:

Can this be simpler?

I enjoy building backend systems, internal tools, automation, developer tools, and software that connects to real hardware.

  • 🐍 Python is usually my first choice for backend and tooling work
  • 🌐 I build full stack applications with React, TypeScript, Django, and Node.js
  • πŸ—„οΈ I work with relational databases, APIs, queues, caching, and background processing
  • 🐳 I deploy with Docker, Linux, Nginx, AWS, and GitHub Actions
  • πŸ”§ I occasionally disappear into 3D printing and hardware projects

πŸš€ Projects

🧩 Easy Custom Autofill

Chrome Web Store Users

A lightweight, privacy-focused browser extension for saving reusable text and quickly filling repetitive form fields.

Built to reduce repetitive typing without requiring accounts, cloud storage, or a remote backend.

Chrome Web Store

🌎 PyWorldAtlas

PyPI Python

An offline-first Python package for exploring countries, geography, cities, borders, distances, and other geographic data from a compact bundled SQLite database.

Built around a simple API with no external service required at runtime.

🧠 Code Refresh Labs

A lightweight coding-practice platform built around short exercises instead of long problem-solving sessions.

Designed for warming up before coding, rebuilding confidence after time away, or getting a few useful repetitions without turning practice into a grind.

πŸ–₯️ Display Hub

A modular Raspberry Pi E Ink dashboard that combines information from multiple services into a configurable physical display.

Includes a web interface for arranging dashboard modules and an installation flow designed to make deploying the system to a Raspberry Pi straightforward.

πŸ”¬ Currently Building

β™ŸοΈ Physical Chess Robot

A physical chess and checkers system combining software, electronics, custom 3D-printed hardware, and robotic movement.

The current prototype explores:

  • Servo-controlled physical movement
  • Custom 3D-printed game pieces and board hardware
  • Electronic piece identification
  • Physical move detection
  • Software-managed game state
  • Chess and checkers support

This one is very much an experiment, which is half the fun.

πŸŒ… Sunsetted Projects

Not everything needs to live forever.

These are older projects that I shipped and learned from but no longer actively maintain.

🎯 RoleRadar

A local-first desktop job discovery and tracking tool that queried official company job APIs and organized results without requiring a hosted backend.

Project

β™ŸοΈ Online Chess Platform

A full stack multiplayer chess application with real-time rooms, Stockfish integration, move analysis, authentication, and persistent game data.

One of my earlier larger web applications and a great excuse to learn entirely too much about chess engines.
