How many passes do I actually need?
1–3 passes is sufficient for modern drives. 35 passes is extreme overkill — only needed for classified material.
Does it work on SSDs?
SSDs work differently from HDDs — use the manufacturer's secure erase tool for SSDs when possible. For individual files, 1 pass is still effective.
- Windows 10 / 11 (64-bit)
- Must be run as Administrator for free space wipe
- Administrator rights
