Hi, I'm Simon

IT Support Analyst | Infrastructure & Cloud

I'm an IT professional building practical projects and home labs to develop hands-on skills in Windows Server infrastructure, networking, virtualisation, automation and Microsoft Azure.

This GitHub documents my progression into infrastructure and cloud engineering through practical, documented projects.

👨‍💻 Projects I'm working on:

A multi-server Windows infrastructure environment built with Hyper-V, designed to simulate the core networking, identity, security and file services of a small organisation.

Technologies:

Windows Server 2025 Hyper-V RRAS Active Directory DNS DHCP Group Policy Windows LAPS PowerShell SMB NTFS

What I've Built:

  • Built a segmented multi-server Hyper-V environment with dedicated routing, domain controller, file server and client roles.
  • Configured RRAS routing, NAT and DHCP relay across isolated server and client networks.
  • Deployed Active Directory with structured OUs, security groups and AGDLP-based access control.
  • Configured AD-integrated DNS, DHCP and Group Policy, including workstation security and Windows LAPS.
  • Implemented SMB file services with group-based NTFS permissions and least-privilege access.
  • Validated infrastructure services using Windows administration tools and PowerShell.

What's Next:

Phase 2 — Resilience & Operations
  • PowerShell automation.
  • Additional Domain Controller and AD/DNS replication.
  • Backup and recovery testing.
  • Centralised monitoring and logging.
Phase 3 — Hybrid Azure
  • Extend the environment into Azure.
  • Implement hybrid identity and networking.
  • Introduce Infrastructure as Code.
