Use inferno as master clock device?

Hello.

It would be useful for me to be able to use inferno as a clock master device on the network. Right now, I am using a hardware device when I have access to it, or I use the Audinate Dante VIA demo software, which will expire soon.

Is this planned? Or maybe I haven't read the instructions correctly and this is already possible?

PTPv1 master is not implemented in Statime (neither upstream, nor our fork).

A workaround would be to enable AES67 on at least one Dante device in the network, and switch to PTPv2, because PTPv2 master is supported in Statime.

But Inferno<->DVS routing is not possible if there are no other Dante devices (or other PTPv1 clock sources) in the network.

You'll need to generate your own PTPv1 master.
The other option here is go and buy an AVIO. They aren't hugely expensive (though occasionally they spike). You just keep it on your network (you don't even need to use it) and you're good to go. It'll end up getting elected as the master since its the only clock you're running and that's it.

It's funny, when I started years ago w/ AoIP I would have said it's phenomenally inelegant. Having said that, with experience, a moderately reliable clock is going to be the biggest blocker for most people setting out on this journey.

You can roll your own GM / Time Server but it's a bit more involved. Additionally it serves very well to have some quasi okay frame of reference when you're doing your own. This way you have a known functional specimen that you can compare against.
I've been running an AVIO on the side, it's saved my bacon a couple times when I was off screwing around with my time toys but didn't have the ability for my day to day audio transport to go down.
