Null Driver goes into standby and asks me to put on my headset

So, I'm trying to run a setup with just some trackers, no headset no controller.

I follow all the instructions, but no matter what I do, SteamVR just says "Standing by Put on your headset to wake VR"

of course, there's no headset, so I can't put it on. I've tried turning off all the power save features, and fiddling with some other commands as well, but it won't report any tracking of the controllers while it's in standby mode, so I'm stuck.

Had the same problem,
Basically what is happening is steam auto-turns off the display if the proximity sensor doesn't detect.
Once you display VR view, You should go to the startup/shutdown area of the Steamvr settings and set the auto turn off time to 5 minutes. Close SteamVR completely. This then creates the entry in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\config\steamvr called turnOffScreensTimeout and set that to however many seconds you want it to be on.
