Vasileios (Basil) Tsalikidis

I am a Hellenic Army Signals Officer (Captain) and cyber-security professional with nearly three decades of technology, operational and command service. More than 13 years of my career have been in NATO units, an agency and multinational headquarters, working across operational CIS, NOC/SOC environments, INFOSEC, COMSEC, cyber defence and CTI.

I hold a BSc in Informatics from the Hellenic Open University. My thesis examined AI-assisted cyber threat detection using Knowledge Graphs, MITRE ATT&CK, NIST CSF 2.0, Neo4j and related analytical methods.

Professional Background

  • At the NATO CIS Control Centre in Naples, I monitored geographically distributed communications services and managed REMEDY/ITSM incidents from initial report through troubleshooting, coordination, resolution, closure and shift handover.
  • At NRDC-GR, I progressed from Crypto Custodian and INFOSEC duties to Cyber and CIS Security Staff Officer and Chief of the Cyber and CIS Security Cell. I designed and established the foundations of the headquarters' dedicated Cyber Defence and CIS Security Cell, including its structure, manning, job descriptions, qualification requirements and training pathways.
  • I contributed to more than 20 NATO and national exercises, readiness evaluations and command-post activities across TOC, NOC, SOC and JOC environments. This included FMN Spiral 2 change-management work and team participation in CIS evaluation activity covering more than 8,000 test and assessment indicators.
  • I have commanded a communications company and an independent CIS platoon, combining personnel leadership with communications-centre, CIS-security and COMSEC responsibilities.
  • I currently serve as a Staff Officer for Host Nation Support and RSOM within GRC RSOM & SPT HQ under JLSG Naples. In this headquarters title, GRC is the NATO country code for Greece.

Current Technical Work

My public work connects operational cyber experience with practical, explainable security engineering. I use public or synthetic data and keep employer systems, operational detail and sensitive material outside these repositories.

  • Python tools for security review and evidence handling
  • NIST CSF and SP 800-53 control and outcome mapping
  • MITRE ATT&CK, D3FEND and structured CTI analysis
  • Neo4j, Cypher, Knowledge Graphs and graph-based threat modelling
  • Security governance, incident handling and operational resilience

Public Projects

The Ledger tools are small, local-first instruments. Each one records a decision and the evidence behind it, rather than reducing it to a score.

Project Status Purpose
Security Headers Ledger Portfolio-ready, v0.9.0 Context-aware, read-only review of HTTP security headers with versioned methodology, regression baselines and evidence outputs.
CSF Outcome Ledger Active Local-first recording and mapping of security activities and evidence against NIST CSF 2.0 and related control frameworks.
Cyber Posting Ledger Available Local-first review of cyber-security vacancies against structured career evidence and recognised workforce frameworks.
